My name is Jenny Hulden. I am from Salinas, California.
I am 26 years old, and I have been a tattoo artist for
just over 2 years. I started drawing and playing music
at a very young age. I spent a lot of time drawing, and
pursued art through junior high and high school. I got my
first 3 tattoos at age seventeen,
followed by my first professional tattoo at 18, done by
Rosie, at Gold Coast Tattoo in Marina. I became very interested
in tattooing, and would get work done by Rosie whenever
I could.
When I was 22, I learned how
to build and wrench on Volkswagen engines. I did that
for a few years, then Rosie agreed to teach me to
tattoo in trade for doing some work on his car! My
apprenticeship began in March of 2004 at the Marina Gold
Coast Tattoo. I did my first tattoo in October of 2004,
practicing first on grapefruit, then on myself. I ran
the shop in Marina for seven months until it closed in
November of 2005. During this time I was interviewed
for a story on tattooing. It was published in The
Herald along with a picture of the tattoo that the
author got from me during our interview.
I do a little bit of everything, but my favorites are
the original, traditional |
